The US 219 Corridor Project involved improving traffic operations and safety within the town of Oakland, the county seat for Garrett County, Maryland. The study area includes the entire town of Oakland, Maryland, the adjacent towns of Mountain Lake Park and Loch Lynn Heights, as well as the open areas and farmlands between and around these three municipalities. Its boundaries extend from just north of the US 219/Kings Run Road intersection to just south of the US 219/Jasper Riley Road intersection, a distance of approximately 5.7 miles.
-
Existing movement through Oakland on US 219 was circuitous and unsafe due to a high percentage of heavy trucks having to navigate the town’s narrow streets and tight turns. Backups frequently occurred during peak periods.
- Developing 4 four-lane arterial bypass alternatives on new locations, a TSM alternative and a No-Build alternative.
- Developing cost estimates and assessing the project effects on environmental resources.
-
Plans included enhancements to benefit pedestrian and bicycle travel within the town limits.
-
