During Hurricane Isabel, the Chart House Restaurant was inundated with 4 feet of water from a tidal storm surge. The restaurant sustained major damage and required a significant renovation to allow it to reopen. The timber pier, which supports the restaurant, was originally constructed as a PT-boat fabrication facility during World War II. While the restaurant renovation was underway, an inspection of the pier revealed that portions of the timber piling were deteriorated. A repair program was implemented to restore the structural integrity of the timber piling and shore bulkhead.
- Coordinating engineering services to accommodate the Owner's aggressive schedule and City of Annapolis requirements.
- Inspecting the timber piling and underside of the pier deck considering difficult access and tidal conditions.
- Preparing pile repair details that could be implemented by a driver in very turbid water conditions.
