The new Gettysburg Battlefield Museum and Visitor's Center is a world class facility worthy of America's most famous civil war site. The project included the development of a 140,000 square foot Museum and Visitor Center on a 100-acre site. Designed to accommodate over two million annual visitors, the Center is home to the newly-restored Cyclorama, a 360-degree, 100-foot diameter painting depicting the epic events of July 1863.
Century provided the design of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for the nearly 250,000 square feet of visitor galleries, exhibit space, food service areas, and theaters in the new Center. The Center is designed for LEED® Silver Certification and incorporates state-of-the-art HVAC systems featuring ground source heat exchange technologies designed to provide critical control over relative humidity in sensitive spaces.
Humidifiers and dehumidifiers were designed to respond to a dew point sensor mounted in the ductwork after the dry air and wet air flows have been well mixed.
-
HVAC systems handle very large quantities of air as a result of lower than normal temperature differences.
-
The heat pump system had to be designed to provide sub-temperature control necessary for accurate control of relative humidity.
- An Energy Recovery System was required for pre-heating of the outdoor air.
