Harrisburg University is a comprehensive academic organization that integrates an affiliated high school level preparatory school and business incubator. This project included site/civil, landscaping, and electrical design for a new 392,000 square foot, 16-story high-rise constructed on an existing parking lot at 4th and Market Streets in downtown Harrisburg, PA. The project includes classrooms, labs, an auditorium, administrative office spaces, ground floor retail and public access spaces, as well as a 392 space parking structure.
Century prepared a land development plan and obtained City Council approval for the site development portion of this 16-story high-rise building project which also included a 392 parking garage on fire intermediate floor levels. Construction documents and a Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) with detour route were also prepared for this project. PennDOT approval of the HOP plan and detour route was obtained.
- Adjacent Strawberry Street was vacated through the land development plan submission.
- Maintaining traffic on adjacent roadways and implementation of a detour route for closure of 4th Street during construction.
- Adapting the site to conform to the City’s streetscape requirements.
- Extensive utility coordination was required as a result of unusually high available fault currents, which required careful electrical equipment selection.
